Toronto Weather

In early spring, Toronto’s average temperature is around 37°F (3°C).  During our time in Toronto the outside temperature will average 41°F (5°C).  The weather service is predicting small amounts of rain over the dates of March 16-March 19, 2017.

What to Pack/What to Wear

The dress code for the AAS Conference is Business Casual. Pack a few warmer layers as meeting room temperatures can vary.  Also make sure to bring comfortable shoes – the Sheraton Toronto is a very large hotel with multiple meeting room levels.

Getting around Toronto

Toronto’s downtown is a very walkable city and has many great downtown neighborhoods with great shopping and restaurants very close to the hotel.  Too cold to walk outside?  Follow the PATH, Toronto’s underground walkway linking 18.5 miles of shopping, services, and entertainment. You will reach your downtown destination easily in weatherproof comfort; including the Toronto Eaton Centre Mall.  Click here for more information.

Money & Tipping

Visa and MasterCard credit cards are accepted almost everywhere in Toronto including taxis, food trucks and Union Pearson Express stations. AMEX and Diners Club are less often accepted. Don't forget to alert your bank/credit card company of your upcoming international travel.  There are numerous banks and ATMs in the downtown core where you can withdraw Canadian dollars for gratuities and shopping. Speaking of shopping, the exchange rate for the US dollar is very favorable ($1 US = $1.35 Canadian). Tipping is expected at restaurants and hotels. A standard tip is usually 15-20%.

Cell Phone Usage in Canada

Don’t forget that your US cell phone and data roaming plan doesn’t cover Canada. To avoid roaming charges, purchase a Canadian data roaming and calling plan from your provider. If you choose to go without a cellular plan, you can take advantage of WiFi at the Sheraton to communicate with friends and colleagues via email, the AAS Conference Mobile APP, Facebook or Twitter.  We also suggest downloading What’s App, a free text messaging app.
