For questions regarding membership, please read the section below, visit the AAS Membership page, or contact AAS Membership Manager, Doreen Ilozor, at dilozor@asian-studies.org.
How long does an AAS membership last?
An AAS membership lasts either one year or two years. Members who join for two years enjoy a 10% discount.
An AAS membership duration is based on a yearly quarter. The quarter cutoff dates are: March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31.
For example, if you join on August 10, your membership will be in good standing until September 30 of either the next year or two years later.
I have forgotten my password, and wish to renew my membership. May I select the “Join AAS” button and complete the new member form?
Yes. All AAS memberships are manually checked. If we find an existing membership profile, we will link it with the new member application.
Where can I get my receipt?
All members will automatically be emailed their receipt. If you have not received it, please contact Doreen Ilozor, dilozor@asian-studies.org, for a receipt to be mailed to you.
How do I access the online Journal of Asian Studies (JAS) for free?
Online access to the Journal of Asian Studies is available to all current AAS members. Once you log in to the Member Only section of the AAS website, select “the Online Journal of Asian Studies” link. This will open the Cambridge Journals website. There is no need to log in again to Cambridge's site once you reach this page. Simply scroll down the page, and select the JAS volume and issue number you wish to read (older issues are available via the “Back Volumes” link). All issues of JAS published since 1941 (Volume 1) are available online to current members.
Is there an AAS Member Directory?
Yes. The AAS Member Directory is only available online (a print version is no longer available). The online Member Directory is available to AAS members via the "Member Only" section of the AAS website.
What is an Associate membership?
Associate memberships are available to a spouse of a regular AAS member whose membership is current during the same time frame, and the fee paid by the regular member is based on the higher income of the two. At this discounted rate, Associate members will be able to register for the Annual Conference at the member rate. Associate members will have access to the Member Only section of the AAS website.
May I make my AAS membership retroactive?
No. An AAS membership is made active when your payment is processed and we are unable to backdate memberships or send back issues of the Journal of Asian Studies or Asian Studies Newsletter.
How can I obtain print back copies of the Journal of Asian Studies (JAS)?

Do you publish news about AAS member achievements or awards?
Yes. The AAS encourages its members to inform us of achievements or awards for inclusion in the Asian Studies Newsletter (announcements for the “Member News” section of the Newsletter should be sent to Doreen Ilozor at dilozor@asian-studies.org).
Please note, due to space constraints, the Asian Studies Newsletter is not able to include announcements of new books published by members. Members are encouraged to have their publisher send a copy of their new book to the Journal of Asian Studies for review. Please forward copies to:
Association for Asian Studies
ATTN: Journal of Asian Studies Book Reviews
825 Victors Way, Suite 310
Ann Arbor MI 48108 USA
Why can I not have my Family name printed first on my mailing label?
The AAS database has one field for a member’s first name, and one field for family name. For consistency, all members are listed “First Name” then “Family Name”. The AAS apologizes for any inconvenience, however, we cannot change the order of names on mailing labels.
Does Cambridge University Press provide AAS members with a discount on book purchases?
Yes. AAS members may call Cambridge University Press to receive a 25% discount on books. This does not apply to online purchases. In North America, members should call 1-800-872-7423 or 1-845-353-7500. Outside North America, members should call +44 (0)1223 326070.
