Request for Proposals:
Seeking Host Institution for AAS-in-ASIA 2019
Deadline: Friday, March 10, 2017
The Association for Asian Studies (AAS) would be pleased to receive proposals from universities and institutions in Asia interested in hosting the sixth AAS-in-ASIA conference in 2019.
Three AAS-in-ASIA conferences have been held to date: the first was hosted by the Asia Research Institute of the National University of Singapore (NUS) in July 2014; the second, by Academia Sinica in Taipei in June 2015; and the third by Doshisha University in Kyoto, June 2016. The conferences have grown year by year. The fourth conference will be hosted by Korea University in Seoul in June 2017, and the fifth by Ashoka University in Delhi in July 2018.
AAS seeks to rotate the sites of AAS-in-ASIA conferences among its four regions — China and Inner Asia, Northeast Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. Proposals from institutions in all regions will be considered for the 2019 conference but, to maintain the AAS commitment to regional balance, it would be desirable to identify a willing and capable host institution in Southeast Asia.
The AAS seeks a partner institution that has a demonstrated capacity to host an academic conference of 700 to 1,000 participants. A committed group of faculty at the host institution as well as a project leader who is able to dedicate time and energy to the initiative are essential to the success of the conference. Having administrative and technical (computer and website) support at the host institution is crucial. Engaging the services of a professional conference organizer (PCO) to work closely with the university administration to manage registration, housing, and other financial and logistic matters is highly recommended.
Expressions of interest should provide a description of the institution’s past experience hosting academic conferences.
The deadline for submitting expressions of interest to host the AAS-in-ASIA 2019 is Friday, March 10, 2017
. Please send expressions of interest to: Michael Paschal, AAS Executive Director (email@example.com
) and Robert Snow, AAS Director for Outreach and Strategic Initiatives (firstname.lastname@example.org
