With the opening up of the Peoples' Republic of China, there is bound to be a considerable trade in antiquities and an acceleration of new discoveries. Speakers who represent organizations which are concerned with issues related to the preservation of cultural heritage and the regulation of cultural exchange in China and other parts of Asia will here discuss the status of the law involved, both U.S. and international. While academics and curators are aware of the ethical issues involved, they are largely unaware of the legal framework within which these issues are resolved in actual situations.
